The Galaxy Laser Team have landed!

Whilst the latest attempt to land something on the Moon may not have worked so well, 50+ years after the last man on the Moon, these Mercury or Cosmonaut style figures from Tim Mee have landed!

Thanks to Alan the Tradgardmaestre, who has been having a bit of a ducal sortout at the Duchy Of Tradgardland, I now have some more laser fodder and paint or conversion potential.

“Perfect for retro space gaming” in 54mm indeed. Thanks Alan!

Tim Mee Galaxy Laser Team aren’t usually cheaply available in the UK (the header proudly mentions “Made in USA” by J. Lloyd international 2017.

This pack like many good things is in three parts (like the triple joy of the Kinder Eggs – a Surprise, chocolate and a toy?) Space fighter rocket ships, realistic 60s astronauts and some SciFi TV and film (Wookie-Likee) spinoff characters.

Alan had previously sent me some of the character figures.

“Galaxy Laser Team with Space Monsters and Star Patrol”

Such cool spirited weird graphics on the card header panel.

On the header card, spot from L to R

The Wookie-Likee or “space monster” from Star Wars / Planet Of the Apes?

Judge Dredd / Darth Vader mash up with short Laser sword.

Purple Astronaut – wot no space laser guns?!?

Female space ship crew with obligatory space miniskirt and computer terminal

Surrendering or flying Space Turtle (!!) and space fighter ship.

Sent in the last consignment, space officer (centre) and his mobile space radiator / robot.

The 1981 Airfix Space Warriors are equally a weird Space SciFi Tv and film character mash up just like The Galaxy Laser Team and Star Patrol – done to avoid copyright? – such as these extra Airfix recruits, brought online and recently arrived here cheerfully and garishly painted.

All good fun for my ongoing Close Little Space Wars project in 54mm.

Often with heavy shipping from the USA. However some figure sets like these appear available on Amazon UK but not cheap in this rather fetching Galaxy Laser Team Bucket Set with space accessories:

Some Amazon listings also mention their origin:

“Originally produced by Processed Plastic (Tim Mee’s parent company) around 1978, they were also branded as STAR PATROL with X-WING ROCKET and OUTER SPACE FIGHTERS. These figures celebrate a funky mash-up of space movie characters from the old black and white serials to that famous space opera in a galaxy far-far away. Package includes an optional sticker sheet to customize your star fighters.”

    1. Thanks for sharing these images, they are bang on target for the Mercury astronauts era. The thing that I find most useful are the computer consoles, very useful for giving the right feel to flat pack space buildings / terrain. I shall enjoy exploring the website even more.

  1. Alan and I bought these direct from the USA as you couldn’t get them here. I still have my 2 packs – I’ve managed to paint a total of 5 figures so far!

    1. It’s such a shame they aren’t more widely available here, without heavy us shipping charges to the UK from the USA. But then I suppose we had Airfix Space Warriors, more common here than America. I think its international plastic tat envy …

    1. A squad of upright attack space heaters … a Judge Dredd / Darth Vader 70s flash mob Glam Rock boy band … mutant hero ninja Waiter space turtles … and the bored looking 60s miniskirted Space checkout girls or Space crew wandering around checking whirly computer tapes and flashing light panels … the possibilities are as limited as my ImagiNation.
